The marriage covenant symbolizes the covenant we have with God. If we break that covenant, we can SAY we are still in a covenant relationship with God, but we won’t be. We will be on our own…in dangerous territory.
Similarly, if our husband breaks the marriage covenant by dealing with us treacherously--bringing adultery and/or abuse into the marriage--he has broken our marriage covenant. We can stay and SAY we are still in a covenant marriage relationship with our husband…we can say that, but we no longer are. One person does not a covenant make and you will be on your own…in dangerous territory.
If your husband will not go to counseling (receive Godly counsel)--prepare yourself--he will not do the work necessary to restore and reestablish the covenant of your marriage. Psalm 55:19-21: “He has put forth his hands against those who were at peace with him; He has violated his covenant. His speech was smoother than butter, But his heart was war; His words were softer than oil, Yet they were drawn swords.…”
